Another online casino which is themed around a tropical island! Will we ever tire of these? Perhaps, but not quite yet. Reel Island is now in its third
year of operation and has been quietly gaining a reputation as a fun online casino to play in. As the Ugambling team is sitting, writing this review on
a cold, wet Tuesday morning, we thought we'd take a trip to Reel Island and see what all the fuss is about. We were expecting palm trees, video slots,
wilful misuse of the word "reel" and, unfortunately, the dreaded wagering requirements on promotions.
The first thing we noticed about this casino was the animated logo. The word "reel" appears on a slots reel and each letter spins into view to spell-out the word - nice touch! There's also a lot of warm yellow and turquoise colours splashed about the place, giving that tropical island vibe that the name of the casino implies. Beneath the main navigation menu, we find a rotating banner for current casino promotions - one of which features everyone's favourite conquistador, Gonzo, with his signature thumbs-up expression, sitting beneath a parasol - he really does get around, doesn't he?
Games are laid-out in a 3-column grid, just below a horizontal list of games categories, accompanied by the almost mandatory jackpot and latest winner trackers. The layout is nothing revolutionary but works fine. Most of the innovation must have been put into making the logo, which we can forgive in this case.
Smartphone/tablet users will find a similarly standard functional interface which, unfortunately, does-away with the animated logo in favour of a static one. As with some of the other casinos that are part of the same white label group, the bonus terms and conditions seem to dominate the homepage when viewed on a smartphone which, although likely a legal requirement, does spoil the overall appearance of the casino on a smartphone.
The clue is in the name of this online casino; Reel Island is utterly focused on the slots games. There is a massive selection from many of the big-name providers such as NetEnt, Microgaming, and Evolution. Slots fans will struggle to think of any slots which are missing, and the team at Reel Island has put a lot of effort into giving the player as many tools as possible to assist in finding their favourite games - categories, filters and a search box. We would like to have had the search option available on the homepage for even faster navigation, but that's a minor complaint on an otherwise great games lobby.
Classic casino games are also well represented in Reel Island, with all the well-known game types available as well as some more obscure/specialist games for the purists. There is also a small selection of live dealer games available in the casino, though this seems like more of an afterthought, as the selection extends to a mere 13 different games.
If we could summarise the last section into just a few words, it would be "Good, but not comprehensive games selection." A similar sentence could be used to describe the deposit and withdrawal methods available in Reel Island. All the major methods are available to players - bank transfer, credit/debit cards, Skrill, Neteller - as well as some more obscure ones. We just can't go as far as to say that all possible methods have been included, though the selection should be sufficient for almost every player.
A minimum withdrawal limit of £/€20 is imposed, and verification checks will be conducted prior to the first withdrawal being processed. Other than that; there is little else in the way of limits on withdrawals, bar the clause that any jackpot winnings of £250,000 or more may be paid in up-to 30-days. Overall, Ugambling had a very good experience in depositing and withdrawing with Reel Island.
It may be an island, but Reel Island is far from cut-off from the rest of the world when it comes to contact. A live chat service is available all-day, every-day and the support representative, O'Neil (not of surf-wear fame), was very helpful and attentive to our queries. Sadly, there is no telephone support offered by this online casino, but the email support was satisfactorily speedy, with our emails being answered within approximately 2 hours each time.
For the bonus lovers among the Ugambling readership (it seems our advice about not accepting casino bonuses doesn't quite get through to all of you); Reel Island offers a selection of promotions, ranging from a welcome bonus to daily ongoing promotions. The usual gimmicky names for these promotions are present - "Sensational Sundays", "Easy Mondays" and "Humpday Handout" (we really wish people would stop using the term "Humpday" - it's called "Wednesday"). These promotions all offer different values of "bonus money and/or "free" spins.
